A Month with the HTC One max

in october i was contacted via htc’s pr agency right here in london, and after a sequence of discussions they sent me a htc one max to test for a month.  i’ll admit, working on the identical website as brian means that i stumble upon effortlessly as a luddite to the cell community enthusiasts: my each day driving force since jan 2011 is a samsung galaxy s2 on a 24 month contract, which is slowly death.  it did now not assist that i have a custom rom on there that is broken, but the battery is giving up the ghost and the memory isn't always massive enough to house all i need.  in seeing this, i used to be shipped a htc one max retail unit earlier than their release within the uk.  with the aid of jove, it is massive.

back to my luddite roots, i only invested my first tablet in september – the nexus 7 2013 model.  sitting next to this, the htc one max (for a few cause the m in max isn't officially capitalized) is sort of there, and then when sat subsequent to my sgs2, it is massive.  over the course of this month, each time i pulled it out inside the business enterprise of others, all my friends and family wanted to ask questions on it, and wondered if i had long past back to the 80s in phrases of length.

so first matters first: i needed to get a relevant sim card.  within the uk we've got a choice of just about a dozen carriers: i'm with t-cell below the umbrella of ee (the whole thing anywhere), and my sgs2 takes a full sized sim while the max wishes a micro-sim.  a quick jaunt into my area of london and the ee stores do now not have the clipper to convert to a micro-sim – this appeared a little abnormal.  carphone warehouse did have the device, however my sim had already been driven to the threshold of the plastic so slicing it would destroy the sim itself.  so i had to pass lower back to ee and buy a micro sim for £10 then spend 15 mins on the smartphone to ee’s call desk getting my everyday wide variety onto the brand new sim.  this took 5 mins, even though they country as much as 4-24 hours can manifest.  lower back domestic, i set up the cellphone with my everyday google account and set about with the fingerprint scanner.

the group of workers on the local ee save wanted to play with the digicam

i usually have very simple unlock equipment on my phone – i'm a person that likes to switch the screen off whilst i am now not the use of it, even supposing i turn out to be needing the cellphone two seconds later.  so i set myself the project of dwelling with the fingerprint scanner for the month.  two matters happened on this front: first of all, the fingerprint scanner handiest identified my finger less than 30% of the time.  just like what brian said in the videocast #2, make certain that you document the finger within the everyday manner you preserve the telephone.  i did this, but i seem to maintain the telephone in lots of different methods, so it got noticeably frustrating when I wanted to peer e mail / respond to google messages however the phone would not recognize my finger.  therein lies some other difficulty i had to start with – due to the fact the fingerprint sensor is at the back next to the digital camera, for the first fortnight (14 days), on severa activities, i tried to release the phone by using swiping the camera.  these two issues blended gave me a few critical headaches in phrases of slowing me down in my regular swing of work.  i have now not tried the iphone implementation of the fingerprint scanner, however as it stands it is not some thing i want to apply on my phone.
